• IP Leases

IP Leases will allow tenants on Akash to request a publicly routable IP address for the services they deploy. Today, you get an HTTP endpoint connected to your service, and Kubernetes assigns the actual port. With IP Leases, a tenant on Akash can request a dedicated IPV4 address, allowing users to assign a specific port instead of a randomly assigned port.

• Provider Services Split

With this functionality, Overclock Labs will be able to segregate different stages of the development process and iterate more rapidly and effectively.

• Cosmos IBC3

One chain can transfer transactions to another chain using IBC3. Users now have access to the most recent IBC Cosmos features, and Akash Network is now connected to the entire Cosmos ecosystem.

• Interchain Accounts (ICA)

By enabling Interchain Accounts, Akash will provide access to interchain composability and significantly improve the user experience on Akash Network.

THE STATE OF AKASH

First, let’s take a look at the validator's set of Akash. As most Cosmos Zone uses Proof of Stake, the decentralization and security of the Layer will depend on its validators.

The Nakamoto Coefficient of Akash is 5, as it takes the top 5 validators to cross the 33% voting power threshold. Below is the chart to help you visualize it better.

The largest validator in Akash is Kava Labs, with 16.7M AKT bonded ($4.1M)

So far, AKT is used to:

• Stake to secure the chain
• Governance Vote

Combined with a high inflation rate (15%) to reward validators, the price of AKT will suffer in the long term.

In the latest Week in Review, the Akash team revealed that they intend to implement a new value accrual mechanism, most likely a burn mechanism tied to stable/fiat settlements. More details will be released as the governance proposal’s release draws near.

The activity between Akash and other Cosmos Zones is also lackluster. Within 30 days, the number of IBC transactions is 31K, at 6.7M in dollar terms, mostly with Osmosis ($6.5M)

Next, we will look at the trading activity of AKT on Osmosis. The trading volume fell dramatically in May, which coincided with the depeg of UST, and has consistently stayed within the low range of $20K - $200K. Looking at the number of new AKT traders and cumulative number, we can see that a large spike also occurred around January 2022, with a smaller uptrend in September, October 2021 and March - April 2022.

Similarly, Liquidity Provider (LP) supplied in AKT correlate with trading activity on Osmosis, although the number of LPs has been in a noticeable downtrend since June 2021.

The good news is that the number of AKT Holders on Osmosis is still on the rise, now reaching 15,1K on November 30th, 2022, though also at a slower pace since May.

CONCLUSION

Due to the LUNA - UST debacle and no clear token value accrual model, both the Akash Network and AKT have suffered tremendously hard, in terms of network activities, IBC transfers, and trading volume.

We can only hope that with new developments regarding mainnet v4 and better tokenomics design, Akash can once again attract the attention of the community.
